I spotted this beautiful bird while traveling in Indonesia. The Java peacock is also known as the Green or Indonesian peafowl. It is native to the jungles of South east Asia. endangered due to hunting and habitat loss.

This large aloe is located at Crystal Cove State Park in Newport Beach, CA, At the Los Trancos parking lot. It was in beautiful bloom and buzzing with activity.

The most common hummingbird around the Orange County, CA coast is the Allen’s Hummingbird. This little girl was posing in front of a flowering Indian Hawthorne at at the El Dorado Nature Center in Long Beach, CA.

I found this beautiful Hummingbird while in Mexico recently. The male Broadbilled Hummingbird was visiting the Mexican Petunias (Ruellia brittoniana) planted alongside a walking trail. Broadbilled Hummingbirds live primarily in Mexico but do range as far north as Arizona and New Mexico in the United States.

Pond Turtles

In Long Beach, Ca, there is a beautiful park near the San Gabriel River which encompasses a couple of small lakes and a few miles of tree-filled trails. The lake outside of the El Dorado Nature Center building is filled with these pond turtles, who are also offered sunning platforms near the bridge to the trails.
Ochre Sea Star

The Ochre Sea Star used to be plentiful along the Orange County, CA tide pools its numbers are currently few after a wasting disease hit the area several years ago. This sea star was spotted at Crystal Cove tide pools the year before the disaster struck.

Costa’s Hummingbirds are found in desert areas of Southwestern United States, Baja and Northwestern Mexico. This fellow took up his territory at a friend’s yard in Palm Springs, CA.

This female Belted Kingfisher lives at the back of Bolsa Chica Ecological Reserve, perching along the waterway on the dead branches of eucalyptus and other trees which used to grow in the area.
